Contribute to the Philippine Internet Review #phnet20 Project
This campaign is for the creation and publication of the 2nd edition of the Philippine Internet Review: 20 years of Philippine Internet History (2004 to 2014).
10 years ago, we published the book “Philippine Internet Review: 10 Years of Internet History (1994 – 2004)“. As the Internet in the Philippines celebrated its 20th year this 2014, I decided to embark on a project in updating its content reflecting on developments from 2004 to 2014. Will also cover other areas that we may have missed or needs to be corrected in our first edition.
I was fortunate enough to witness the early years of the Internet in the Philippines. When it reached its 10 years last 2004, a lot of things have happened. We witnessed the initial rise and crash of the dotcom. I believe in the importance of documenting it to help researchers and Internet entrepreneurs learn from the past.
By the time we released the publication in September 2004, social networking and social media began entering our Internet culture. A lot of exciting stuff has happened since and amazing growth has happened to date.
As we reached the 20th year this 2014, I decided to embark again on this project to document the 20th year. Internet users who will be helping out in this project will become part of an “Internet Historians Community” and help in setting up a process to ensure that work will continue for #phnet30.
Your support to this project will be of great help to future Internet historians, e-commerce advocates, start-up entrepreneurs, and students who would like to learn the evolution of the Internet in the Philippines.
FUNDING REQUIREMENTS:
- The cost for the content development (getting writers and researchers to help out), editing, and layout will be at five hundred thousand pesos (P500,000). If this budget will be met, target release date of the e-book edition will be on October 13, 2014.
- Should fundrasing efforts reach up to one million pesos (P1,000,000), printed edition of the publication shall be released for public purchase. Copies will also be donated to public libraries. If this budget will be met, target release date of the printed edition will be on October 27, 2014.
- Should resources be limited, the webinar series shall be completed as planned and make it available as reference for people who would like to learn about Philippine Internet history. Funds received will be used for this purpose.
- Persons donating in the funding requirement of this project shall be acknowledged in the e-book and printed edition.
- Contact Janette Toral (send a private message) for inquiries about this project or call her at 0920-9508696.
